About UsThe Alliance for Sustainable Wellbeing is a national education program devoted to catalysing the thinking and practical action that will lead to Australia becoming a viable society - and thus a world leader in achieving ecological sustainability and social wellbeing. At the moment we have a small group who are working on this; interest is growing. We are organising a Creative Thinking Forum on Transitioning to a Viable Society for early 2010. The Creative Thinking Forum is for leaders of national organisations and other influential people in Australia. It will be a 3-day in-depth exploration of what it will take for Australia to become viable, and how we can use our networks and influence to catalyse the change. Andrew Gaines is the convenor of the Alliance for Sustainable Wellbeing, and a contributor to the Transition Leader Network.
Andrew is an innovative systems thinker who has original insights into what it will take to evolve a viable society. He is trained in The Natural Step, a reality-based approach to working out whether a business, a country or the global civilisation is sustainable or not. His academic background is in philosophy, and he works professionally in the areas of creativity training, the Feldenkrais method of body awareness and psychotherapy. He is the author of Evolving a World That Works, Orienting to Creating a Viable Future, and Creative Conversations, and he has published on corporate social responsibility in the Journal of Corporate Citizenship and in the CSIRO Sustainability Netletter. Andrew lives Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, about two hours from Sydney. The story of how he became a committed optimist is
